Just opened in early 2002, the new border crossing of Vinh Xuong offers an opportunity to explore the low land of the Mekong River from Vietnam to Cambodia. Experience river cruising and rapid photo-shooting amidst the beauty of riverine activities such as floating markets with sellers and buyers bargaining and exchanging goods from their boats, houses-on-stilts along the creeks, floating fishing villages, etc. The trip also takes visitors to the world of spectacular monuments and magical legends of the Angkorian architectural complex. Angkor, the biggest city in the world in the 9th-12th centuries, contains more than 100 monuments, including two dozen major temples. Some of the temples, such as Angkor Wat and Bayon, merit repeat visits at different times of day, as the reflections on their walls and labyrinthine interior spaces are transformed by light.
Day 1: Sai Gon - My Tho - Ben Tre – Can Tho (L)
Day 3: ChauDoc–PhnomPenh(B)
On arrival at Phnom Penh, you are met and transferred to hotel. The capital city of Phnom Penh was once considered the loveliest city of Indochina. Despite its recent turbulent history, it still maintains considerable charm. A city tour acquaints us with some major sights of Phnom Penh. The private quarters of the Royal Palace are now home to the royal family and are therefore very close to the public. At the northern area of the palace grounds is Silver Pagoda, the most sacred shrine in the country. We visit both structures as well as the legendary temple of Wat Phnom, which provides an interesting view over the environs. The next stop of our trip is the National Museum, exclusively dedicated to Khmer art and sculpture. The majority of the exhibits are from the Angkor period from 9th to 15th centuries, but some date from as early as the 4th century.
